AEMT-Intermediate Programs

Pursuant to conversations with NYS Bureau of EMS, they will not approve any AEMT-Intermediate CME programs or Rapid Recertification programs going forward.  Any AEMT-Intermediates currently certified who will lapse before June 30, 2014 will have to recertify as a Basic EMT and then attend the new AEMT program, when it becomes available.

Understanding the Situations Around You

ONEIDA COUNTY OFFICE OF THE FIRE COORDINATOR

120 Base Road

Oriskany, New York 13424

TRAINING CLASS- Open to All Fire/EMS/Law Agencies

Situational Awareness in the

Fire and EMS Services

“Understanding the Situations Around You”

Presenter: Dr. William Jenaway- Fire Chief

clip_image002

Overview: We don’t need a dictionary to tell us, understanding the situation around us when entering a fire or rescue situation can mean the difference between life and death to our crew. It is up to the officers in charge of the incident, division, crew or apparatus to know the level of risk they are encountering and make the critical decision of when to advance or retreat to risk only what you are willing to lose versus what can be saved. Remember no building is worth the life of a firefighter – be aware of your situation! Similarly, we have to understand the situation around us at the station, and on the street to not only stay safe, but to protect the assets of our organization, to protect our customers, and to keep our organization from experiencing problems. Chief Jenaway brings his years of experience through examples of situations that have created problems for fire and EMS agencies and how to manage them. Firefighters, EMTs, Chief officers, administrators, and Commissioners will all find examples of how to protect themselves and their organizations.

Instructor’s Bio: William F. Jenaway, Ph.D, CFPS, CFO, CSP, CPP, FIFE is Executive Vice President of VFIS, the countries largest insurer of fire and EMS agencies. During his 43 years in public safety he has served as Chief of two Pennsylvania Fire Departments as well as a local elected official with public safety responsibilities. In 2001 he was named “Volunteer Fire Chief of the Year” at the IAFC Conference. A regular conference speaker and contributor to numerous fire service publications he is on the Editorial Advisory Board of Fire Chief magazine and serves as President of the Board of Directors of the Congressional Fire Services Institute.
