The Basic EMT class scheduled at COCVAC for tonight has been canceled.

The Rapid Recertification Program will be discontinued until further notice. Starting January 2013 Leslie Myers and Bill Perry will be starting  “CME Satellite Sign Ups” for the Online CME Program. If your agency is in Herkimer, Madison or Oneida Counties and you would like us to come out to your agency please contact Bill at 315-624-4539. If you sign up during a “Satellite Sign Up” you will only be required to attend 1 class at the end of the program. To qualify for the Online CME Program your agency must be in the Midstate Region and your agency must be enrolled in the CME Program with the NYS DOH.

There will be a Basic CME Class for starting this Sunday at the West Winfield Fire Dept. Classes will run from 9:00am to 5:00pm on Oct 14, 21 and 28. This Class meets the new National standards and will be the last Basic CME class for 2012. If you expire any time from December 2012 to February 2013 this will be your last chance. The only other option will be to take a Basic Refresher class and possibly expire before testing in May 2013. If you would like to take this class be on time and make sure your Department is enrolled in the NYS DOH CME Program and you have a DOH-4226 form on file at the DOH from your department. During a 12 hour period between Oct 3rd and 4th three stroke patients received rapid assessment and appropriate stroke care and now have a new lease on life!!! Problem: In a September 6, 2012, Urgent Medical Device Recall letter submitted by the manufacturer, Philips states that if the above batteries fail when the above monitor/defibrillators are not connected to an alternating current (AC) power source, the device may unexpectedly shut down without emitting a low-battery warning message or an audible tone. Philips also states that this problem may result in patient harm if the above monitor/defibrillators become inoperable when in clinical use for providing therapy (i.e., defibrillation, noninvasive pacing). Philips states that the above monitor/defibrillators can function on AC power without a battery.

Action Needed:

​Verify that you have received the September 6, 2012, Urgent Medical Device Recall letter from Philips. Identify any affected product in your inventory. Philips recommends that users operate affected monitor/defibrillators with AC power instead of battery power alone. If you need to operate the device on battery power alone, check the date of manufacture code to ensure that the battery is not affected by this problem. If you are unable to operate affected monitor/defibrillators on AC power or locate a different battery, Philips recommends that you use an alternative treatment or therapy (i.e., backup defibrillator/monitor). A Philips representative will contact your facility to arrange to replace affected batteries. Inform all relevant personnel at your facility of the information in the Urgent Medical Device Recall letter, and forward a copy of the letter to any facility to which you have further distributed affected product.
