Your Agency is in jeopardy of losing its ability to receive DOH training funds

Midstate Basic Life Support (BLS) Rescue Agencies

Important Information

Your Agency is in jeopardy of losing its ability to receive DOH training funds

(sending your members to CFR, EMT-B members for FREE)

YOUR ACTION IS NEEDED NOW.

The New York State Department of Health is in the process of updating records; each BLS Agency has or will soon receive a “packet” that needs to be completed within 60 days.  The packet includes an Agency update form as well as Public Access Defibrillation Notice of Intent and Epinephrine Auto Injector Notice of Intent.  These forms must be completed and returned by October 1.  In addition if your Agency is listed as a Regionally Approved Albuteral Agency this form must also be completed and returned.

In most cases The Program Agency has maintained a copy of your file and can assist you with this project. Someone from the Faxton – St. Luke’s will be contacting you shortly to determine what assistance we can offer you.  We have packets available at the office and can help you keep your agency current.

YOUR STATE EMS ID NUMBER WILL BE TERMINATED BY NEW YORK STATE ON OCTOBER 1 IF YOU DO NOT COMPLETE THIS PROCESS

The process of getting a new state issued EMS number is both slow and difficult.  Your current and future CFR’s. and EMT’s will be required to pay for EMS Training.

A Special Tribute to 9/11

From: Jared A. Pearl,  Asst. Chief, Maynard Fire Dept.

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen:

I am writing to you about a very important event that is coming up in recognition of the 10th anniversary of the attacks on our soil at the World Trade Center.  It will take place on September 1st at Mohawk Valley Community College in the Information Technology Building Theater.  Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and the presentation will begin at 6:30 p.m.  M.V.C.C., with members of the Maynard Fire Department, are on a committee putting together this special event.  It will coincide with the display of artifacts of the World Trade Center at MVCC that you may have heard about on the news.

We have two incredible speakers: Lieutenant Mickey Kross, the last firefighter who was pulled out alive from the North Tower.  We had the great honor of meeting and spending some time with him over the last three years in New York City during the Tunnel to Towers run.  He will share his remarkable story.  Please feel free to google him.  He has been featured on, among others, the History Channel. He was also just invited to the Vice President of United States’ house for an event on September 8th.  He was with the FDNY for 27 years.  He is also a former police officer with the NYPD, and he is a former United States Marine.

Our second speaker is a local boy: Kevin Hughes.  He is a former member of the Maynard Fire Department and Oneida County Sheriff’s Office (Corrections).  He was also a former United States Marine. He was working as the Vice President for Deutsche Bank in the South Tower when the planes hit and he was able to get out.  As if that is not miraculous enough, he served as a Sergeant in Fox 2/5 in Iraq and his unit secured Baghdad. His amazing story has been featured on ABC’s Nightline.

I am writing to ask you to attend and to send a message to your members asking them to attend this event.  Please come and give a warm welcome to these two heroes and show your  support for first responders (as you all are) and military (as some of you are) who were involved in the most tragic event on U.S. soil and its subsequent events in Iraq.  I am hoping that our Police/Fire/EMS community will have a presence – in uniform – to honor this memorable anniversary and these great men.

Could you please use whatever channels are available to you to get the message out to your members? Please feel free to forward my e-mail, if necessary.  I know September 1st is some time away given summer vacations and plans, so I will be sending a reminder as the date approaches.  Also, stayed tuned to coverage on WKTV and other news outlets.

I greatly appreciate your time and any effort you can expend to get this message out to your members.

Respectfully,

Jared A. Pearl
Asst. Chief
Maynard Fire Dept.
